TITLE SEQUENCE - CONCEPT + DESIGN
For IT: Welcome to Derry, I was tasked with creating a series of boards and a proof-of-concept animation test (forgive the low-quality render) that would later help lay some of the groundwork for the final title sequence.
I called the concept “DIE-orama,” which explores the twisted and sadistic influence Pennywise has over the people of Derry. Through a series of stylized “slice-of-life” moments, everyday scenes from around the town are reimagined as eerie dioramas composed of paper cutouts, each disrupted by bizarre and horrific elements.
The concept serves as a metaphor for Pennywise’s control over Derry and its residents, manipulating them like pieces in a macabre game. Just as a child might play with the figures in a diorama, Pennywise toys with the people of Derry, distorting their reality, exploiting their fears, and turning the town itself into his playground.
The final title sequence, completed by Filmograph, went on to receive an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Main Title Design.
